I am Dr. Michael D Bucknell, owner of South Alabama Chiropractic. I want to share with you my story of how Chiropractic changed my life. From childhood I suffered with terrible allergies. Having gone through every method of treatment including medications, steroid, antibiotics, and eleven years of allergy shots, nothing seemed to help. When surgery became the last option, my mother (who worked as a nurse for an eyes, ears, nose, and throat specialist) refused. The same routine continued, with recurrent sinus infections almost monthly, until I was old enough to decide that I wanted to be healthy.
When it became time to look into college I knew I wanted to be a doctor, but wanted to find a simpler, more logical approach to Health Care. When Chiropractic was recommended to me I began to investigate and was amazed I had never heard much about it before. To sum up the story, I realized a short time after beginning my education and getting regular adjustments that my allergies had all but ceased. I will always remember the first day of school when the professor asked what brought each of us to chiropractic school and I had no inspiring story other than "the school was nearby." I see now that I had a calling.
After graduating from Pierre Laclede's Honors College at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, I claimed both my Doctorate and a Bachelors of Science in Human Biology at age 24 at Logan College of Chiropractic in Chesterfield, MO. I have spent countless hours studying in addition to my former education striving to find the "keys" to absolute health, and uncover why, though we are the wealthiest and best educated country in the world today, our health continues to decline. It is my goal to educate as many as possible as I continue to learn, and help lead my patients to a level of health they previously thought only the wealthy could afford.
Since I entered private practice on June 26, 2004 my philosophy has been simple: bring the most effective treatment and the most innovative health information available to as many people as possible. Understanding that our service begins with education is the key to our ability to bring outstanding health. Innovation through the use of technology assists the education process, which is why we have added a patient media room with a nine foot theatre screen for patient presentations. We have made a commitment to ensure that the best outcome is achieved. We will continue to grow and change as needed until this goal is met, and Mobile is changed from our efforts.
Our mission statement best states, and simplifies, our purpose and motivation: "Protect Life...Maximize Potential.”
